Carol Clawson - UT
Carol was five when her family got their first border collie from relatives who had a sheep ranch in Craig, Colorado. Although border collies were a part of her life from that point on (even going to college with her), it wasn’t until her son was grown that she started working her dogs on sheep. Since then, Carol has been trialing regularly. Carol was President of the Utah Stockdog Association for several years and served as the President of the USBCHA from 2015-2018. She has judged several Utah Stockdog trials as well as Strang Ranch and Trailing of the Sheep, Cottage Grove and Sleddin’ & Sheddin’. In 2022, Carol and her partner formed SH Sheepdog, LLC and now put on the Soldier Hollow Classic Sheepdog Championship & Festival. Carol lives in Charleston, Utah with her husband, Steve, four border collies, and a small flock of sheep. In her spare time, Carol is an amateur photographer who has followed many of these trial dogs and handlers with her camera lens.
Alison Holmes - TX
I think my first word was “Dog.” I have been an animal lover all of my life. I likely inherited that gene from my father’s side of the family, although my mother is wonderful with the critters. As a city kid, I built extended dog families from Legos. But I have always been country at heart. My husband, Herbert, and I traveled North America for a number of years, competing in USBCHA trials and conducting clinics. I started training dogs for the public and starting young dogs I got Chip in for training . . . a grandson of Battle’s Cap. Chip and I competed for about 3 years, making the top 10 in the National Nursery Finals at Klamath. After Chip moved to Open, one year I ran him at The Big One SDT in Bowman, South Dakota. I also made the top ten in the USBCHA Nursery Finals in later years with my very special Britt. But the dog that I likely learned the most about training with, was a male named Rys. He was a difficult kind of dog to train. We placed third in the first open go round at Carbondale one year, on very stiff sheep. We also won a Stockmanship award at Meeker. We had a wonderful time attending a lot of North American dog trials and more importantly, made lifelong friendships from this sport.

Handler Meeting: 5pm Thurs.

Since we have so many enrtries we will be running two fields.  As trial gets closer we will post  the order of classes. 

Open starting 7:30 am.  Open handlers meeting at 5 pm on the field Thursday the 8th.

Open Ranch and nursery handlers meeting at 11 am Friday.

Saturday night will be pot luck.  The trial will provide the meat and some drinks.  Please bring side dishes and chairs.  Also if you plan to attend would you send me a note telling how many so we can plan.
